Previously holding the prominent position in the Treasury alongside George Osborne as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Alexander was one of the four Lib Dems to negotiate the coalition documents.
The public has taken to Twitter to join in with the speculation, saying that the SNP are set to unseat him.
This has been speculated for quite some time now, after Alexander helped Chancellor George Osborne deliver unprecedented cuts.
