Conservative take Rochester and Strood – UKIP target seat

Tory defector Mark Reckless has lost out to his former party, seeing UKIP taking a loss in the Rochester and Strood.

The UKIP candidate began his term in 2010 as a Conservative.

However in September 2014, he announced his defection to UKIP which triggered a by-election in which he won, enabling him to sit in the House of Commons as a UKIP member.

Reckless has been unable to hold on to his position, with the constituency turning to Tory’s Kelly Tolhurst.

Conservative count comes in at: 23,142

UKIP count comes in at: 16,009

Labour count comes in at: 10,396

Green Party count comes in at: 1516

Liberal Democrats count comes in at: 1251

Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition count comes in at:202
