Ed Balls loses Morley and Outwood in a terrible night for Labour

May 8, 2015 by Jeffrey Buchanan Leave a Comment

Former Labour Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls has lost his seat in Morley and Outwood after a full recount.

He lost the seat to Conservative Andrea Jenkins, by 422 votes.

Labour count was 18,354

Conservative count was 18,776

Liberal Democrats count was 1,426

UKIP count was 7,951

Greens count was 1,264

Yorkshire First count was 479

The seat was newly created in 2010 based on the former Morley and Rothwell seat and part of Ed Balls’ abolished Normanton seat.

This is a huge loss for Labour, as Balls was going to be at the forefront of the party’s economic policy.
