Nigel Farage fails to secure Thanet South

May 8, 2015 by Steph Butcher Leave a Comment

UKIP leader Nigel Farage is expected to step down following his defeat in Thanet South. He had previously vowed he would resign if he failed to secure a position in Parliament.

In his speech, Farage criticised an electoral system which left his party with four million votes – 12.6% of the vote share – but only one MP in parliament. He said: “I think the time has come for real radical political reform.”

Possibly hinting at his impending resignation, he continued: “On a personal level I feel a real weight has lifted from my shoulders and I’ve never felt happier.”
