Following a tough night for the Liberal Democrats, it has been rumoured that Nick Clegg is likely to stand down as party leader.
After an incredible decrease in the number of Liberal Democrat MPs elected to parliament, Nick Clegg has said that he will be meeting with his colleagues at Westminster to discuss his position.
In his acceptance speech for Sheffield Hallam, Clegg acknowledged the severe losses that the Lib Dems have seen tonight, including the defeat of Danny Alexander, Vince Cable and Ed Davey.
Clegg went on to say:”It is now painfully clear that this has been a cruel and punishing night for the Liberal Democrats.”
Although there is no confirmation of Clegg’s decision to resign, a spokesperson has commented, saying that Clegg will be returning to his party HQ shortly.
They go on to add that the public “only have to wait a few short hours before the man himself gets to speak.”
The Liberal Democrats could see their seats reduced to single figures.
