Comedian Al Murray has today handed in his nomination papers in his bid to stand against Nigel Farage in the general election.
Murray, known for his character the Pub Landlord, donned the guise as he submitted his papers to stand in South Thanet for his party, Free United Kingdom Party (FUKP).
The UKIP leader is also standing in the Kent constituency.
Murray arrived at Thanet District Council’s offices in Margate, Kent today to hand in his papers in a fire engine that had been converted into a pub.
The 46-year-old, Oxford-educated comedian and prospective MP launched his campaign in January, which included a pledge that Britain will leave the EU by 2025, “and the edge of the solar system by 2050”.
Murray plans to combat immigration by bricking up the Channel Tunnel to stop people moving to “the greatest country in the world” using British bricks and Polish labour.
In true ‘publican’ spirit, he also promises to introduce a “1p a pint” initiative. However, “crisps will remain at the current price”.
