David Cameron refers to “career defining election” in campaign slip

May 1, 2015 by Tom Beasley Leave a Comment

David Cameron has referred to the General Election as “career defining” today in a clear Freudian slip.

The Conservative leader was speaking at Asda’s headquarters in Leeds, when he made the comment, swiftly correcting himself to “country defining”.

Already, the blunder has been captured online.

This is a ‘career defining’ election, says Cameron by mistake https://t.co/qHC5N7OR7z

Twitter is already lighting up with comments.

It seems the electorate are not impressed with Cameron’s attitude, accusing him of putting his own needs ahead of those of the country.

Hey @David_Cameron, is this career defining in the same way Mummy got you your first job?

This is more important for me, than it is for the country. #CareerDefining #GE20125

Yes #DavidCameron , this is a career defining moment – it’s all about you after all. #Ed4PM

Perhaps ironically, this is a gaffe that could be career defining for Cameron.
