Miliband holds his seat in Doncaster North.

“Clearly it’s been a very difficult night for the Labour Party,” Miliband said after the announcement. He said he was “deeply sorry” to his Scottish colleagues north of the border who had lost their seats.

English Democrats count comes in at: 448

Liberal Democrats count comes in at: 1,005

Official Monster Raving Looney Party count comes in at: 162

Conservative count comes in at: 7,235

Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition count comes in at: 258

Green Party count comes in at: 757

Labour count comes in at: 20,708

UKIP count comes in at: 8928
