Huge queues around Dorset and the UK leave some unable to vote

May 7, 2015 by Jayni Patel Leave a Comment

Hundreds of people have been turned away from polling stations due to large queues and the wrong ballot papers being issued in Dorset today.

Many constituents queued this morning in hope of casting their vote in the Dorset area, but were struck by large queues. In particular, Branksome Recreation in Poole was highly affected by the large queues, as many tweeted “huge queues in Branksome Rec to vote for great democracy,” following a photo of many gathering outside Parkstones Sports and Arts centre, waiting to vote in the polling station.

As well as this, Bournemouth Council apologised after 100 people were unable to cast their vote due to an administrative blunder which led to the wrong ballot papers being issued.

Ballot papers marked with Kinson North had been marked with Kinson South instead, causing some confusion. Tony Williams the councils chief executive  said the mistake was due to a printing error, for which he apologised.

We’ve produced a storify for users to find out about this problem across UK polling stations here.
