Danny Alexander is the latest of Liberal Democrat candidates to lose his Parliamentary seat.
He has suffered from the rise in support of the SNP, with the nationalist party’s candidate, Drew Hendry, taking Alexander’s Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey seat.
Alexander was one of the four Lib Dems to negotiate the coalition documents, and he previously held the prominent position in the Treasury alongside George Osborne as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
The Liberal Democrats came in at 8,029
The SNP count came in at 28,838
