Tory candidate’s twitter dig at Miliband backfires hilariously

April 9, 2015 by Joe Nerssessian Leave a Comment

This morning the Defence Secretary Michael Fallon travelled back 30 years to the Cold War – saying Trident renewal was Britain’s “most important issue”. He also accused Labour leader Ed Miliband of planning to “barter away” Trident in order to become Prime Minister. Floods of Tory parliamentary candidates tweeted their support for Fallon’s comments, including Nick Boles – candidate for Grantham and Stamford. However rather than just tweet general anti-Miliband rhetoric, Boles made the terrific mistake of asking an open ended question regarding who Russian President Vladimir Putin would prefer to win the election.. Here’s how it panned out:

Ask yourself this. Who does Vladimir Putin want to see running Britain after 7th May?

— Nick Boles (@NickBolesMP) April 9, 2015

The responses were funny:

@NickBolesMP Vladimir Putin — WelshRacer (@Welshracer) April 9, 2015

.@NickBolesMP H from Steps, maybe?

— David Whitley (@mrdavidwhitley) April 9, 2015

And got funnier…

@mrdavidwhitley @NickBolesMP I heard it’s Clare Balding. On horseback. Topless. — Andy Gilderdale (@AndyGilder) April 9, 2015

.@NickBolesMP Is it Look North weather presenter Paul Hudson?

— David Whitley (@mrdavidwhitley) April 9, 2015

and they went on…

.@NickBolesMP Silly politics. Although my best guess would be Zayn Malik. — Mit (@wheresMit) April 9, 2015

The Chuckle Brothers? @loveandgarbage @NickBolesMP

— Ian Smith (@wurzie82) April 9, 2015

And on…

That woman offof the Bake Off? @NickBolesMP — Ern Malley (@loveandgarbage) April 9, 2015

Barry Scott from the Cillit Bang adverts? @NickBolesMP

— Eddie Robson (@EddieRobson) April 9, 2015

@NickBolesMP @loveandgarbage Is it Big Brother 4 winner, Cameron Stout? — Huw (@ed_son) April 9, 2015

@NickBolesMP Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout?

— roger (@r0g3rd4y) April 9, 2015

And on…..

. @NickBolesMP Is it 70’s sitcom actor Derek Deadman? — Dave Lee (@davelee1968) April 9, 2015

@NickBolesMP JOHN TRAVOLTA!

— Joanna Bolouri (@scribbles78) April 9, 2015

@NickBolesMP is it ex Chelsea ace Solomon Kalou? — Father Ben Hicks (@BHicksMP) April 9, 2015

Until Mr Boles put us all out of his misery and answered himself:

Answer: the man who abandoned the Syrians to their fate and the woman who wants to scrap our nuclear deterrent. — Nick Boles (@NickBolesMP) April 9, 2015

Although twitter still didn’t let it rest completely:

. @NickBolesMP Léon Blum and Barbara Castle? Well, okay, but that seems unlikely.
